Instagram’s Threads can be accessed via a web browser this week

Instagram launched Threads with a bang, with millions of users jumping from X (formerly Twitter) to the new platform. However, soon that was reversed, and thanks to the barebones feature list, Threads lost a good chunk of monthly active users. Thankfully, one of the most requested features, the web version of Threads, could finally launch early this week.

According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg (via The Wall Street Journal), Threads will get a web version and better search functionality. Currently, searching for usernames is the only search-related action you can take on the platform. However, as per the WSJ, nothing is finalized, and the launch of the web version of Threads could get delayed.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri posted on Threads that an early version of the Threads web version was under testing for a week or two. However, it needs some work before wide release. This is pretty crucial for Threads to gain back the lost users. Recently, the company added some repost-related features that allow users to search for reposted content easily.

To give you some quick numbers, the number of registered users on Threads was around 100 million less than a week after its launch, which fell drastically. Notably, the platform saw a dip in daily active users of 70% two weeks later and 80% by mid-August. The limited features of Threads were blamed for this. But thanks to the slow addition of features, the number of daily active users could bounce back.
