Samsung’s chip plant in Texas to make 4nm AI chips for Groq

The US-based AI solutions firm Groq has selected Samsung's Taylor fab to manufacture semiconductor chips. Samsung Electronics will be responsible for supplying the next-gen AI semiconductor chips to Groq, which will be designed in partnership with Samsung's Foundry Design Service team and manufactured by Samsung on its SF4X process (4nm).

On Sunday, the California-based fabless firm Groq said it contracted with Samsung Foundry and solidified its roadmap with a US-based foundry services provider. According to Groq (via Yonhap News Agency), Samsung will start producing the advanced chips at its new semiconductor factory in Austin, Texas.

Speaking of this new fab, Samsung built this $17 billion chip fabrication plant last year to complete the construction by the end of this year and start production next year, i.e., 2024. Marco Chisari, head of Samsung's U.S. foundry business, said, “Samsung Foundry is committed to advancing semiconductor technology and bringing groundbreaking AI, high-performance computing, and data center solutions to market.”

Both Groq and Samsung agree that this new partnership will prove to the world how advanced silicon can bring new AI innovations to the market. Besides, this is the first time Samsung's Talyor semiconductor chip fabrication plant has officially revealed its client. The Samsung Taylor fab is all set to deliver 4nm chips by the end of next year.
