Google Keep is one of the best note-taking services that's available on a variety of devices. However, it lacks text formatting options, which people have been requesting for a very long time. Last year, the teardown of the Google Keep app for Android revealed that it contains strings of code related to text formatting. However, we never got to see how those features would look and work in real life. That’s changing today, thanks to a Twitter user who has enabled formatting options in Google Keep and demonstrated them in a video.
As you can see in the video posted by @AssembleDebug, there are a total of seven buttons for formatting options in Google Keep. The first three buttons allow you to choose between three sizes for text—H1 and H2—and one size for the body (Aa). The next three buttons allow you to apply three different styles to the text: Bold, Italic, and Underline. The last option, denoted by T, is for clearing all the formatting options applied to the selected text.
Luckily, all these formatting options work even with checkboxes. All in all, Google has implemented all the necessary formatting options in Google Keep. It’s just that the company hasn’t enabled any of those options yet. That’s most probably because Google might still be testing them out to find bugs and squash them. But going through the video, the formatting options in Google Keep seem to be working perfectly, and we can’t wait for Google to release them to the public.
Maybe Google is waiting for these features to work perfectly on other device types, including smartwatches and the web. So, we expect the feature to be released to all devices in a similar time frame.
The news of Google Keep getting text formatting support was spotted almost a year ago but there was no preview/video of the feature except some string and icons.
