Samsung Electronics has turned 54 years old today. Yes, the company is that old. In 1969, Samsung Group (which started in 1938) established Samsung Electric Industries. In 1974, Samsung Group entered the semiconductor business by acquiring Korea Semiconductor, which was the country's first semiconductor chip company and was struggling. Soon, it joined hands with Korea Telecommunications and established Samsung Semiconductor & Communications. In 1988, Samsung Electric Industries merged with Samsung Semiconductor & Communications to form Samsung Electronics, which we know today.
As it turned 54 years old, Samsung Electronics held a ceremony at Suwon Digital City with over 400 employees, including CEO and Vice Chairman JH Han. The heads of Samsung DX (TV and home appliances division) and Samsung Device Solutions (semiconductor chip division) also joined the anniversary celebration. The ceremony started with a congratulatory performance (by disabled children of employees) and continued with the presentation of service awards/exemplary awards to employees. Later, the founding speech was given, and then there was a presentation of a commemorative video.
Samsung aims to keep innovating and creating new business opportunities
During his speech, JH Han emphasized the importance of keeping technology and quality as top priorities, creating the best customer experience, and securing sustainable growth. He said, “Technology and quality are fundamental competitiveness that must be maintained as the top priority. Even as times change, technological leadership is Samsung Electronics’ greatest value, and quality is a core competitiveness that cannot be compromised.” He added, “We must become a company that leads the future lifestyle by providing greater value by connecting various products well,” and “To become a customer-centered company, we must work together as One Samsung, crossing organizational boundaries.”
JH Han said that the company must not rest on its past laurels. He encouraged the company's executives to find new businesses that could drive the company's growth in the future. Importantly, he said that the company will develop an operating system based on AI and data to manage the business. He emphasized increasing productivity and efficiency.
As a part of the company's 54th-anniversary celebration, Samsung Group has started ‘Sharing Week,' where the employees working in all divisions of the group will participate in donations at sharing kiosks, help local communities and businesses, and participate in blood donation. They will also participate in environmental improvement activities near rivers and parks near their business sites. They will offer Braille books and heating kits to those in need.
