Google updates Android logo and branding with a modern design

Just ahead of the Android 14 release, Google has updated the design of the Android logo and associated branding with a more modern look. This new design comes years after it was last updated back in 2019. Google says the broad goal of this redesign is to help connect Android to Google.

The Android text logo now starts with an uppercase letter for the first alphabet. It adds more weight to the logo and makes it look good next to the Google logo. Earlier, the company used lowercase letters for the Android text logo. Moreover, the Android logo with the robot face now has a three-dimensional look. Google says it drew inspiration from the Material You design language for the new logo. It complements Google's color palette and can adapt to various colors, similar to Material You.

In its official blog post, Google said, “Each time we overhaul our branding, we evaluate not only changing needs, but also future goals. We know people today want more choice and autonomy, and we want our brand to be reflective of Android: something that gives people the freedom to create on their terms. As an open platform, it’s important that both our technology and brand are an invitation for people to create, connect, and do more with Google on Android devices.

The Android robot (also known as the bugdroid) has also received a new look. It now has a three-dimensional look. Google says it gave the robot “more dimension, and a lot more character.” Inspired by Material You, the full-length Android robot can adapt to various materials, and textures, and even have accessories. You will start seeing these new Android logos this year in various places, including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and TVs.
