Google seems to have delayed the release of the stable Android 14 update. After a couple of Developer Preview releases and five Public Beta updates of Android 14, it looked like we might get to see the stable Android 14 release, but it has been postponed, which means smartphone brands have to delay the release as well.
Google postpones stable Android 14 update release to early October 2023
It is being reported by Mishaal Rahman that Google has delayed the release of the stable Android 14 update. The source code for Android 14 was expected to be released today, but Google just announced a few Feature Drop updates coming to all Android smartphones. The stable version of Android 14 will be released on October 4, 2023. It is the same date Google's Made By Google event is happening, where the company will unveil the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and the Pixel Watch 2.
If this information is correct, it would be the first time Google matches the release of a new version of Android with new Pixel smartphones. The company has reportedly informed Android OEMs, including Samsung, that any vulnerabilities in Security Release Notes for Android 14 won't be published until October 4.
Samsung may have to postpone stable Android 14 (One UI 6.0) release
Samsung has already released two Android 14-based One UI 6.0 beta updates. A delay from Google would mean Samsung might have to delay its plans to release the stable version of One UI 6.0 to compatible smartphones. Other OEMs, too, may have to postpone the release. For example, OnePlus announced it will release the stable OxygenOS 14 update on September 25, but the company may be forced to delay the release date.
