Unlocked Galaxy S23 units in the US getting Android 14, One UI 6

Unlocked Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra units in the US are now getting the official Android 14-based One UI 6 update. Samsung started the initial rollout of the stable One UI 6 update in late October, and while the rollout seemed to have slowed down for a few days, it has now picked up pace again.

Earlier today, some carrier models of the Galaxy S23 series received the stable Android 14 update, and now, it's available for unlocked units. The firmware version accompanying the update ends in BWK4. The update includes the November 2023 security patch alongside everything that's new with the latest version of the operating system.

One UI 6 brings many useful new features to every facet of the user experience, including a slew of enhancements to the Camera app and to all the photo editing tools that come built-in on Samsung smartphones. Unfortunately, the stable update isn't as smooth as the beta versions of One UI 6 or Android 13/One UI 5.1, which is hopefully something Samsung will address soon with a follow-up update.

But don't let that stop you from updating your phone, as all three phones still run pretty well on One UI 6. To download the update, open the Settings » Software update menu on your phone and tap the Download and install button, or download the latest firmware from our library and flash it on your S23, S23+, or S23 Ultra using a Windows PC.

Editor's note: You may also see slightly reduced battery life after installing Android 14, but a few charge cycles should make battery life stabilize to pre-Android 14 levels. However, if you're not keen on upgrading because of the smoothness issue, the reduced battery life, or both, it's recommended that you stick to Android 13/One UI 5.1 until Samsung releases a newer build of the Android 14/One UI 6 firmware, which could come in a couple of weeks alongside the stable update for Korean users.
