One UI 6.0 shortens Samsung app names to add more confusion to your life

Like all major Android and One UI updates, One UI 6.0 comes with a lot of features and changes that are exciting and a few that most users would never notice or ask for. One such change that is buried in the full One UI 6.0 changelog and may have slipped past you is how Samsung is shortening the name of some of its apps.

How is the company doing that? It's no rocket science: Samsung is simply removing the Samsung part of the names of some apps. Samsung Music is now just Music, Samsung Members is Members, Samsung Wallet is Wallet, Samsung Health is Health, Samsung Notes is Notes, Samsung TV Plus is simply TV, and, well, you get the gist.

You can use search to find apps that no longer have Samsung in the name

Samsung isn't doing this for all apps. And the shorter names won't really make any difference in your day-to-day usage. They could make it harder to find an app by scrolling through the app drawer and also make the process longer as these apps will no longer be listed next to each other because their names will not be starting with Samsung anymore. But you can get around those issues by searching for the word Samsung in the app drawer's search bar, as the results will show all Samsung apps, shortened name or not.

Samsung has made the change to some apps in the Android 14/One UI 6.0 beta software available for Galaxy devices, while other apps will get an update on the Galaxy Store/Play Store that changes their name.  Some apps, like Samsung Music, have already received such an update, and more will follow in the near future.
