Galaxy Z Fold 5 gets another One UI 6.0 beta update

The brand-new Galaxy Z Fold 5 gained access to One UI 6.0 test firmware a week ago. Samsung has now released another beta update for the foldable flagship phone, listing a variety of fixes and known issues.

The first One UI 6.0 beta update had firmware version ZWJ2, but testers can identify this new build through firmware number ZWJ4. The latest beta release weighs a little over 1GB, and it, too, comes with the October 2023 security patch included.

New One UI 6.0 beta update changes and known issues

Samsung says the new One UI 6.0 beta update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 addresses a number of problems that have caused apps to crash in certain scenarios. The official changelog reads as follows:

  • Fixed the terminated issue when entering text with S Pen on Samsung Note.
  • Fixed the display issue when resizing after changing orientation in 3 multi-window.
  • Fixed the Taskbar not displayed intermittently.
  • Fixed the terminated issue when applying photo Portrait effect in Gallery.
  • Fixed issue where Apps and Widgets that are set up at Home disappear.
  • Many other improvements.

As far as known issues go, Samsung confirms that the new firmware hasn't addressed a number of other force-closing problems concerning the Camera, One UI Home, Systemui, and Smart Select Crop.

In addition, there's a problem with the new Quick Panel, where users may see an empty screen. The “home” navigation bar gesture doesn't work sometimes, and the home screen can experience some errors.

Samsung still appears to have work to do before One UI 6.0 is ready for a stable release on the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but we're getting closer to the finish line with every new beta update.

Editor's note: The Galaxy Z Fold 4 received stable One UI 5.0 in November 2022. If Samsung maintains a consistent year-on-year launch schedule, we might get stable One UI 6.0 on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 next month. However, schedules are rarely set in stone for new OS releases and beta firmware, so we'll have to wait and see how things develop for this year's Android 14 and foldable flagship phone.
