Earlier this month, Samsung rolled out the October 2023 security patch to the Galaxy S21 in the US. However, back then, the new firmware was made available only to the carrier-locked version of the device (SM-G991U). Today, the company is rolling out the security update to the carrier-unlocked variant of the device (SM-G991U1) as well.
The new software update bumps the firmware version to G991U1UES9EWI3. It brings the October 2023 security patch which fixes 12 security vulnerabilities. If you haven’t received a pop-up on your phone about the new firmware, you can check for it manually by going to Settings » Software updates and clicking on Download and install. Alternatively, you can also download the firmware from our database and install it manually using Odin. Expect other variants of the device to get this update in the next few days.
Upcoming software updates for Galaxy S21
Last month, Samsung released the beta version of Android 14 (One UI 6.0) to the Galaxy S21. Currently, the beta firmware is available in Korea and the US. Expect the company to release the stable version to the public in the next few weeks. Considering that the Galaxy S21 was released with Android 11 (One UI 3.0) and Samsung promised four new versions of Android to the device, it is eligible for Android 15 when it comes out next year. The phone will also keep getting security updates till 2026.
